2020 Tesla Model Y Side View

We have recently had many Tesla owners requesting paint protection film for their new vehicles. Model 3 and X mostly, but today we want to showcase the Model Y.

Car and Driver Magazine writes, “The newest ambitious project from Tesla is the all-electric Model Y compact crossover. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk touted a driving range of up to 300 miles and a zero-to-60-mph time of as low as 3.5 seconds when he unveiled the Model Y during a livestreamed event in March 2019. The 2020 Tesla Model Y looks very similar to the compact Model 3 sedan, but can be outfitted with a third row of seats for a total seating capacity of seven.”

We started out with our top of the line, XPEL PRIME XR window tint. This film has a multi-layer, nano-ceramic technology and provides superior heat rejection, blocking up to 98% of the infrared heat. Also, the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends this product as an effective UV protectant.

Next, and what we feel really makes the visual impact, we applied XPEL STEALTH paint protection film. Over the gray paint, it adds a smooth, statin finish that is subtle and unique.

This paint protection film has the same qualities as XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS, to prevent against rock chips, scratches and road debris, and comes with a 10-year warranty.

Types of Window Film for Las Vegas Summer Travel

Types of Window Film for Las Vegas Summer Travel

For most Las Vegas families, the Memorial Day weekend is a signal that school is (or soon to be) over and plans for a holiday road trip or Summer travel have begun. Maybe less so this year, but we can all still remain hopeful.

And when we think of travel, preparing for the drive is half the battle. Simple maintenance, like changing the oil and checking tire pressure are a given. But what about safety and comfort? If you are considering window tint, then there are several things you should know.

Window tint does block up to 99% of harmful UV rays and, with varying levels of heat rejection, reduces the temperature inside your vehicle. It also protects passengers from shattered glass in the event of an accident, and provides added privacy, which lessens the chances of theft.

Not all window tints are the same, however, and have different characteristics that are suited to different types of vehicles. Depending on your budget and preference, each has its unique benefit. Here are four types to consider:

Dyed Window Tinting

Among all the types of tint film, dyed window tint is the least expensive. However, it should never be underestimated because it still blocks UV rays from the sun and hides your possessions inside your vehicle in broad daylight. The downside of using a dyed tint is fading over time, which means that it would need to be replaced.

Dyed window tint blocks light rays by the addition of dye to the film. The dye is placed in a layer next to the adhesive, and then applied to the window. Solar heat is absorbed by the dye in the film, thus preventing some of the heat from entering through the window. Dyed window tinting film, however, is used primarily for appearance. From the outside, dyed film looks flat and opaque, providing some privacy while still permitting visibility from the interior. When used on the windows of your vehicle, it will appear black. The heat reduction provided by most varieties of dyed film is not particularly high, but they are a cost-efficient option for those on a budget.

Metalized Window Tinting

Like dyed film, metalized film keeps heat away from interior space by reflecting it away. This is done by very small metallic particles embedded in the film. The metallic content also strengthens the window, making the window much more shatter-resistant. And it is more resistant to scratches than dyed film.

Metalized window tint film creates a shiny appearance from the outside. When used on a vehicle, however, one drawback of metallized film is the fact that its metallic content has a tendency to interfere with electronic devices, such as cell phone and GPS and radio transmission. The reflective properties may not be the look you want, as most tints have a matte finish. However, metalized window tints are still functional.

Hybrid Window Tinting

As what the name suggests, hybrid window tints are a combination of metalized and dyed window tint films. They are made to combine the positive qualities of both while eliminating its negative ones. For example, titanium grey dye is known for being not too dark nor too reflective. This kind of window tint provides the necessary amount of darkness to provide privacy while blocking a decent amount of UV rays.

The initial piece of the window tint is an adhesive layer that adheres to the glass. Next, a dyed and metalized layer is incorporated into the film along with a protective top coat to prevent scrapes. Each film bonds together with the use of a laminating adhesive. Because of the dyed layer, hybrid film can block a fair amount of light, while its metallic parts create a crisp, dark appearance.

With hybrid films, the commonly-held belief that “the darker the film, the more heat-resistant it is” no longer holds true. In fact, most people choose darker films simply because they provide the best privacy.

Ceramic Window Tinting

Ceramic film is the highest quality of window tint film, and also the most expensive, contains neither metal, dye, nor metal, but instead a kind of ceramic particle that is both non-conductive and non-metallic. Ceramic film is a relatively new option on the market, but has already proven its worth in terms of performance and reliability. Ceramic window tint film reduces the solar heat that enters through the windows in the form of infrared light, while allowing maximum visibility both by day and night.

Like hybrid film, ceramic window-tinting film allows maximum efficiency in the functioning of radios, cell phones, GPS systems, and all other such devices being operated from inside the protected space. It surpasses the other types in its resistance to glare and fading, and renders windows highly shatter-proof. Ceramic film is also most effective in its blocking of ultraviolet light from the interior; in the case of ultraviolet light (the kind of light rays that contribute to sunburn and skin cancer), ceramic window-tinting film can block up to 99% from entering the interior.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you, but we wanted to arm you with valuable information to help you make the right decision. Just make sure that you have your tint installed by a reputable business and that you are aware of the window tint laws in your state – each state has restrictions on allowable darkness for your vehicle.

Automotive Window Tint Frequently Asked Questions

Automotive Window Tint Frequently Asked Questions

As the temperature begins to heat up, we anxiously anticipate freedom from our new normal of shelter in place or some version of self-quarantine. We want to get out, rekindle the love affair we have with our vehicles, and prepare for those daily commutes back to the office or much-needed, weekend road trips. With all that in mind, our customers have been asking more questions about the topic of window tint. From recent conversations, we have narrowed it down to five. Plus, added a few photos of recent tint installations – enjoy.

Do I Need Window Tint?
There are many reasons our customers ultimately decide to install window tint: Reduced glare from the sun, enhancing visibility and reducing eye strain; Blocks solar heat radiation, keeping vehicles cool and improve fuel efficiency; and Protection from harmful UV rays, that can cause skin cancer and skin damage.

What does VLT Mean?
The percentage of light that a window tint film allows to pass through your car windows is called the VLT (Visible Light Transmission), and each state has different legal allowable limits. A Higher VLT means that more light can pass through the window tint film. Example: a 75% tint will allow 75% of the light to pass through whereas a 25% tint will only allow 25% of the light to pass through, making the 25% tint a much darker film.

This 2020 Tesla Model X, received XPEL PRIME XR PLUS window tint, and XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS paint protection film on the front, hood, mirrors and side panels.

Are There Different Kinds of Window Tint?
Yes. Film and film performance levels vary because of how the film is made. Films can be dyed, hybrid, nano-ceramic or – as with XPEL PRIME XR PLUS™ – made with a proprietary blend of metal and metal oxide nano particles. Depending on type, though, infrared heat rejection levels will vary from 45% to 98%. For more information check out our window tint page.

Will Window Tint Interfere with My Cell Phone Reception?
That depends on the type of window film you choose. For ceramic films no, they will not interfere with radio, cellular, or Bluetooth signals.

This brand new Lincoln Navigator also received XPEL PRIME XR PLUS, providing SPF 1,000 protection and blocking over 99% of harmful UV rays.

Does XPEL Provide a Warranty?
Yes. All XPEL PRIME™ automotive window film is backed by a transferable, lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking, bubbling or turning purple.

HOW SECURITY WINDOW FILM ADDS SECURITY

How Security Window Film Adds Security.

security-home-window film

Glass windows and doors are a norm in modern architecture. They allow natural light in and open up small spaces. Unfortunately, glass can be easily breached and shattered. Window Security Film combats many of the issues that come with glass windows and doors.

Security Film makes it harder for intruders to breach through glass, and it requires a more substantial amount of force and effort, by the intruder, to break through the film. If intruders do break through the glass with security film installed, the glass does not shatter; but, instead holds together making it much more difficult for someone to create a large enough opening to fit their hand through.

Thieves that are experienced know how to break into a home, and even tempered, glass doors and windows can be easily broken by glass-breaking tools that can be easily purchased. Intruders can break into your home unnoticed while you are awake and busy doing your normal routine such as listening to music or watching a movie. This is a fear of many homeowners and business owners, especially during this time when offices are empty and we are all confined to our homes.

Increase Your Safety

There is no way to ensure that we are 100% safe and that our businesses will be left untouched when we return, security window film can help. But what kind of security window film is best? When it comes to security film for your home and your office, you need to consider a few different things during your decision-making process. First, consider the type of windows/glass you have that you will be applying the film to. Double pane windows benefit from security film, but you may want to opt for a thicker film if you are dealing with single pane windows.

In general, single pane windows are going to be far easier to break through than double pane or tempered glass windows. Therefore, optimal protection will come from a larger mil security film. Pro-Tect Film services Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and surrounding areas and installs the best quality window film for home and office.

XPEL VISION Home and Office Window Film Series

best las vegas security window film

Pro-Tect Film offers security film in three different thicknesses; 8Mil, 12Mil, and 15Mil. For offices we suggest going with 12mil or 15Mil thickness because thieves will typically have more time to break into an establishment without interruption.

Thickness Matters

When it comes to homes, we recommend 12Mil or 15Mil for windows and doors that are easily accessible, such as downstairs windows and doors. For upstairs windows and doors, you can choose an 8Mil security film, because those are less likely to be the ideal entry way for intruders and thieves. If you have tempered glass or double pane windows on your home or office and are just looking for that added layer of security, opt for 8Mil which will give you peace of mind.

Security window film can help you keep your property, family, and investments safe. If you have any questions about home window film or office film, please let us know. Don’t wait until you experience a loss before you make the choice to install film on your home or office glass windows and doors.
